Every July, the largest sockeye salmon migration in the entire world occurs on the Brooks River in Alaska's Katmai National Park and Preserve. The guarantee of a bountiful food source draws many of the park's 2,300 brown bears-- which are like grizzlies, but 100-150 pounds heavier!-- and around 10,000 tourists

I’ve been in Alaska for just over 4 days now. I arrived on Saturday after a very long day of flying, exhausted but eager to explore the “Last Frontier.” The first part of my trip, and my main reason for making the trip to Alaska, was to visit Katmai National Park,

This 4th of July, I was lucky enough to have a 4 day weekend. That meant there was plenty of time for local travel adventuring! Here are a few photo highlights from my holiday... Growing up, I visited Maryland's Calvert County beaches just one time each summer. My great-Uncle Tip and great-Aunt Ann would host dozens of guests to celebrate summer in a most traditional Maryland way: a crab feast! It was so long ago that my memories are hazy. Images float to mind, of picnic

Trip Overview: This DC Road Trip takes you into the heart of Virginia's picturesque Rappahannock County. Farm-fresh produce stands, artisans, wineries, taverns and hidden-gem natural wonders are along every mile of the route as you drive out of the city and towards the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Total Mileage: Around 180

This week, I'm co-hosting the #FriFotos Twitter Event with @EpsteinTravels, @CharlesYap, @TravelDesigned and @lindsey_epperly. The theme? TREES! Here are my favorite tree photos... enjoy! After driving over 5 hours yesterday to visit Olympic's beaches and the Hoh Rainforest, we stuck closer to our campsite for our third and final day. But in Olympic, we didn't need to drive far to experience some magnificent scenery. We started by taking the 17 mile road from Port Angeles

Just shy of 1,500 square miles, Olympic National Park is the 13th largest National Park in the US. Olympic's unique because it contains 3 distinct eco-systems within its borders. At lower elevations, it's home to temperate rain forests with moss-drapped trees and ferns aplenty. Then, there's the 73 miles of

My parents are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary this summer by taking a 6 week road trip across the US. Just them, a camper van and America's best national parks. (It's tight quarters, so I guess they still must like each other!) I coordinated my Seattle trip to align with their

My bags are packed for a new adventure. Tomorrow, I'm heading to the Pacific Northwest! This summer, I've run into countless friends who are either going to Seattle, who have lived in Seattle, or who just plain adore Seattle. Because of all this adoration, the Emerald City has been top of

I was going through my old videos, and found this one from my Tongariro Crossing hike in 2009. You can see the volcanic activity that I mentioned earlier this week was evident. http://youtu.be/WuTYP-qfkcM

Nearly 4 years ago, I hiked the Tongariro Crossing on New Zealand’s North Island. Rugged and steep and notoriously treacherous, it was by far the most difficult hike I’d ever completed at that time. But the effort was worth it -- it was gorgeous. I was really amazed by the
