10 Things I Can’t Wait to Do in Ontario

10 Things I Can’t Wait to Do in Ontario

logo-Ontario-leaf-logo-300x300 2In just a few days, I embark on a week-long trip to Ontario, Canada. I’ve got ambitious plans for such a quick trip, with stops in both Toronto and Ottawa on the agenda.

Ontario’s slogan is “Yours to Discover” and I have no doubt that I will be discovering a ton about our neighbors to the north during my stay. Here are the top 10 things I can’t wait to do in Ontario!

1.) Attend TBEX, my 1st Travel Bloggers Conference

TBEX, the Travel Bloggers Exchange, is a conference expecting over 1,200 travel bloggers this year. I can’t wait to join in and attend seminars like “Turning Readers in to a Thriving Community,” “How to Build Effective Instagram Strategy” and “Lessons Learned: Working with Bloggers & Destinations” and meeting other bloggers at the fabulous events, like Toronto Tourism’s Opening Night party, or Expedia’s party on Centre Island.

It’s going to be a jam-packed conference, but I hope to get lots of inspiration and ideas on how to build and improve my blog for all of you!

2.) Stay with WeHostels at the Hostelling International Toronto “Blogger Hostel

What’s better than staying in a hostel and meeting other travelers? Staying in a hostel and meeting other travel bloggers! WeHostels came up with the brilliant idea to reserve 7 rooms for TBEX attendees. I jumped on that opportunity and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to be mixing it up with bloggers at the HI Toronto and talking TBEX from morning til night in one of the best hostels in town!

During TBEX down-time, I hope to have time to…

3.) Take an around-the-world journey in Toronto’s multicultural neighborhoods— like Little Italy, Little Greece and one of the largest Chinatown’s in the world.

4.) Check out the view atop the CN Tower, one of the world’s tallest structures.

After my time at TBEX is complete, I join @OttawaJantine, Ottawa Tourism and 9 other bloggers on a press trip to Ottawa! We’ll be discovering the Sweet and Spicy sides of Canada’s capital city. Will I go the sweet route, or mix it up with some spicy options? Only time will tell.

5.) Enjoy the scenery during a trip on the VIA Rail train

The trip between Toronto and Ontario is just under 5 hours on the VIA Rail train and with complementary onboard wi-fi, I’ll have plenty of time to get caught up with posting TBEX pictures and blogs before the next leg of my journey begins.

6.) Stay at 2 distinctive Ottawa properties…

I start my Ottawa journey by staying at the SWEET Fairmont Château Laurier. Luxurious and stately and located right next to the Parliament Buildings, it’s the perfect place to begin my trip in Ottawa, and the Fairmont will be my home base for 2 nights.

I end it by staying at the SPICY HI Ottawa Jail Hostel. (Yes, I will be spending a night in jail. There’s a first time for everything…)

7.) Relax with some yoga on Ottawa’s Parliament Hill

I’m looking forward to partaking in this quirky Ottawa summer tradition – a free yoga class with hundreds of others with views of the Parliament Buildings in the background.

8.) Embrace my inner gourmand and at Le Cordon Bleu Ottawa Culinary Arts Institute

I’ve always secretly wanted to be a chef, and I’ll finally have a chance to learn from the masters and see if I have what it takes… for a few hours at least!

9.) Walking tour of Ottawa’s ByWard Market

I’m a huge fan of markets, and I can’t visit Ottawa without stopping at their most well-known, ByWard Market. I’ll get a tour of the market, and get to chat with farmers, retailers and restauranteurs… getting to sample lots of local delicacies along the way!

10.) Get a view of the city, from the seat of a bike!

Finally, I can’t wait to take a cycling tour of Ottawa. There’s no better way of getting to know your way around a new city than by riding around on your very own bike.

This is just a sample of what I’ve got planned. I’ll be blogging and posting pictures as I go, so keep checking back and follow along using the hashtag #OttawaSvS on Twitter and Instagram!

I’m ecstatic that TBEX takes place here in Toronto! I’m looking forward to meeting a world of online blogging friends. Streetcar is a great way to explore Toronto’s funky neighborhoods. The 506 is a favorite of mine!
