Snapshot of the Week: Chichen Itza, Mexico

I am fresh back from my trip to Mexico. I had an awesome time… but am in the midst of some serious Cancun-withdrawal.

To help me transition back to the real world, I wanted to share one of the experiences I had on my trip.

One day during the week, I visited the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza. This was not my first trip (I’ve been 3 or 4 times before), but I had a fantastic time embracing my inner archaeologist while I learned about the fascinating yet often-brutal Mayan culture that spanned over 1500 years.

Here are some of my favorite pictures from my day trip to Chichen Itza.

Kukulkan Pyramid… instagrammed!

The Observatory… I love this building.

Another view of the Observatory… this time through the jungle as we approached.

Serpents are very prevalent throughout the site.

All of the temples are very ornate. To think that they were all brightly painted back in the day!
