Latest Travel Obsession: Instagram

Recently, I’ve been on a bit of an Instagram bender. I can’t go anywhere nowadays without looking at my surroundings (or my food…) trying to find a perfect shot that would be a good candidate to be “Instagram’d.” I’ve become a bit of a mobile adventurer.

For those of you not familiar with this seriously addictive photography app, Instagram lets you alter your boring camera phone photos to create short, snappy moments in time captured in an incredibly stylized format.

Specifically, you use the app to select (or take) a photo and apply a variety of different filters to adjust the colors and textures of your photo, while cropping it down to a square-sized piece of art. It also has a super-cool tilt shift feature to add depth and artistry, especially dramatic on those sweeping landscape vistas.

While Instagram makes it super-easy to share your creations to other platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare (just to name a few…) I really like that it is also its own social network. In the app you can add friends or just strangers with photos you admire, and follow along with their adventures in your feed.

If you’re a traveler with a constant grip on your iPhone (like me) the Instagram app is the perfect way to share your photos as you’re on the go. The only downside is that it is currently available only on the i-products. You know, the iPhone, iPad, etc… how hipster of them.

Here are some of my before and after shots from my travels to show the magic that Instagram can do (and follow my mobile adventures in the app @packDsuitcase):

I love Instagram! It turns even the dullest photo exciting. I especially love the pictures on your feed, Chris.

And for Android and Windows phone users, Mashable has said that it's coming soon. They haven't given a definitive time, but it's on the horizon! 🙂

Thanks Mandy! I'm glad to hear that it will soon be available on other platforms. It's too good for just iPhone's alone.
